On of the most common ways to get into someone's home is through the garage. Often people will forget to put a deadbolt on the inside garage door or there are windows that will allow someone access to your garage. So spend a little extra time and money to secure this area. Don't forget a heat senor tied into your security system as well. I recommend GapLock, this will work with your garage door opener and acts as a dead bolt for your garage doors. If your gagage doors have windows, think about tenting the windows or replacing the doors so no one can see if there is a car in the garage or break through the window. Bolt down your garage windows or use a security product tied into your security system. (be aware that motions should only be used in enviromentally sound areas.

If you don't have a garage door opener I recommend the Genie line due to their level of security. Meaning their RF signals can not be easiy copied/jammed.

Its best to get a licensed professional to rekey, add dead-bolts, or repair due to if your lock should later break down the locksmith will fix it free of charge. And if someone should break into your home most locksmiths are insured. Call me, I have a list of locksmiths for the local area.

Remember to change all locks when first moving into a home, even if it’ s a new home. I recommend double key locks where there are doors with windows within range of the lock. Also I recommend locks that won’t lock you in but will lock someone out for crawl space areas. Also look into putting locks on windows (there are many types keyed and non-keyed devices)

Patio Door Security Bar “Charlie Bar”: Recommend all sliders have a Charlie Bar so that you can be sure the bar is set before you leave rather than thinking you locked the door.

Most homes have windows next to their front door. This area should be covers so that no one can look in. But then you will need to add a peephole both at the adult and child viewing levels.

Always have a fire escape plan and practice at least one a month with your family. Make sure everyone knows what to do in case of a fire and where to met. I recommend MONITORED FIRE/HEAT by a Security Company. But here is a great source to add additional fire protection to your home.

To me the best protection is when you can push your protection
futher out. For this reason I recommend security screens. It
allows for you to sleep your windows open yet still feel secure.
Also in order to break into a place you normaly have to go trhough
a screen. If you cut, remove, or tamper with these hand made
screens your alarm will sound and notify your monitoring
station. They are worth the investement.
